Geoff Cameron and Brian Ching of the Houston Dynamo

There are certain sounds that help save lives, and on Friday, May 4th, at Drink Houston we were witness to this. Sarah Pepper of The HOT Show on the new Hot 95-7, and Geoff Cameron of the Houston Dynamo, were the hosts of Star-A-Oke, an event which raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Geoff and Sarah are nominated for the 2012 LLS Man and Woman of the Year. Stars from all over Houston took to the stage for this great cause. The event also included a live and silent auction.

Sarah performed a fun rendition of Journey’s, “Don’t Stop Believing”, and Geoff took the stage with Brian Ching to tackle Neil Diamond’s, “Sweet Caroline.” That was definitely entertaining! The crowd sang along to both songs to help the stars out. Other stars involved were Ivan and PK, also from The HOT Show, Jean Paul, the voice of the Houston Rockets, Lauren, from Mix 96.5, Natalie Bomke, Michelle Merhar, and Kristi Powers from Fox 26, and a Houston Dynamo Girl!

Sarah Pepper told a touching story of how she had lost her Aunt Margie to Lymphoma when she was 15. She shared, that at the time of her aunt’s diagnosis, the survival rate was 10%, and today the survival rate is 60%. Sarah has a goal of raising $100,000, and when she reaches the half way mark of $50,000 she will shave her head! This is a great cause to get involved in, so be sure help out. Hopefully one day no one will have to say they lost a loved one to Lymphoma or Leukemia.
